The number of international students who come to the United States for higher education continues to climb. Nearly a million students will be in the U.S. this year to get an education. So almost 5% of all college and university students here in the U.S. are from outside the United States. That means the "mission field" is coming to us.
And one of the most effective models of ministry we've seen work at secular/state campuses is outreach to international students.
In just the previous 7-8 years I have been engaged in campus ministry in Cincinnati, I've had the opportunity to meet and hang out with hundreds of students from China, Korea, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Japan just to name a few countries of origin. We host dinners, bible studies, and trips to various site-seeing destinations. Through these relationships I have had the opportunity to marry two couples from China and have personally been able to disciple several others.
